Great Grandma died on Monday...I wanted to write something poetic and beautiful..about how blue her eyes were..how soft her hair was..how her nails were always painted and how sweet her smile was..I wanted to say how she whispered to me on my wedding day..That 54 days before this special day..she started a rosary novena..so that it would end on my wedding day...
I wanted to tell the story of when she was still a newly wed and her husband was in the military..when he had only a day or two layover in the States..before he shipped out..she sold her car..just to spend a night with him..
I wanted to say how when I found out we were having a baby girl..I did not know what her first name was...but, I knew her middle name would be Frances...I wanted to say how she would sit outside with a busy Mary Grace and get her for a brief second..to be still..as she listened to Great Grandma talk about the fish in the pond in her backyard..
I wanted to reminisce about how when grandpa and her would dance..people would stop..and stare because they glided and looked like they were dancing on clouds..
I wanted to say how she was the most compassionate, understanding, kind and generous person..that I have ever known..And, how much I will miss her..
A poetic and beautiful post...I could write..but, it would never do her justice..
But, the memory that fills my head..and my heart with happiness...as I sit here..thinking about her...Is a memory at her birthday party..she was eating pizza..and she touched my hand gently ...her eyes were literally dancing and she said " You cant eat pizza without beer." I asked her if I could get her a beer. She gave me a sly smile, and nodded..Even in her 90's..Great-grandma knew how to party.
She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great grandma...she is what I strive to be..I will miss her, terribly...

Aw Susan, I'm so sorry! I loved this post for Great Grandma. I could see what a sweet, fun, neat lady she was from your memories of her!
Beautiful Susan...just beautiful
What a beautiful tribute.
That was a beautiful tribute to what sounded like the most wonderful of women.
Oh, Susan! That is beautiful! AND poetic! And I just cried tears for your great grandma! What a lovely lady!
Susan, what an incredible gift you were given having that wonderful woman in your life. You have so honored her with this post. She will always be remembered.
When mom read this at the end of the eulogy, everyone smiled, cried more, and laughed at the beer and pizza part. No words could do Grandma justice, but you came close. I miss her incredibly. So many tears and smiles last week. Thanks for the beautiful tribute. Miss you. See you soon!
I am so sorry to hear of your great grandma's passing. What a beautiful tribute to her life. My own grandma is almost 88 and is so very dear to me. How blessed we are to have had these true, amazing women, who liked to party a little, in our lives. May we give them honor by trying to be more like them.
