Cosmo

Before there was the 5'8, 130 pound, talented swimmer, A/B student, social Logan...there was the asthmatic, underweight, small, friendless, barely passing 1 st grade Logan.

Really.

He was a lost little boy. And, I really did not know what to do.

I heard about this program where they took cats who were 'wild cats' never domesticated... Spade or Neutered them...If the mother was pregnant waited for her to wean her kittens..and then let the adult cats back into the 'wild.'

They needed homes for these kittens...And, Logan needed something..other than us..to love him unconditionally..

I took Logan to the foster home for these kittens..They were everywhere..jumping, chasing each other, playing..

And, then the lady said " We have another one..the runt..he hides..he is really a scaredy cat."

Without seeing him..Logan said, " I want that cat."

She had to drag him out from under the china cabinet. She handed him to Logan..He looked at that scrawny cat and said.." Hey Cosmo"

Cosmo...was always Logan's cat...He was always on Logan's bed, in Logan's lap playing video games or watching Babe..over and over, meowing at Logan..And, Logan would have to pick up all the dead presents Cosmo would leave us.

But, recently..he just got sick....refused to eat..could not get off his pillow..it was the hardest thing watching him..die..truly suffer.

So, with sadness in our hearts..we had to let Cosmo go.. Logan wanted to be the one who held him to the vet...he had him cradled in a towel..carrying him with such tenderness..

I looked at my son..with swollen eyes and a broken heart..and..thought..sweet cosmo..you did your job..you just loved him..you did just what you were supposed to do..

As they walked out the door, the voice of Farmer Hoggett from Babe came ringing in my ears..."that'll do kitty, that'll do."

I'm so sorry to hear about poor Cosmo! Pets can do magic sometimes for people who are suffering. Your story brought tears to my eyes.

Oh, Susan! That is the sweetest, saddest thing, ever! I loved my cat and we had to do that to her, too! I'm so sorry for the loss of Cosmo! (I cried)
