And swim team has begun...

This weekend was the first swim meet..time trials, you race against your own team. I don't know if it is the smell of sunscreen, the cheering of parents, the buzzer for the swimmers to swim..but, I love swim team..I love the camaraderie of the swimmers, the laughter of the children...it reminds me of a time that could be referred as the 'good ole days..' kids everywhere eating Popsicles, playing tag, cheering for their friends..summer swim team (or at least most of them..) have not been touched by the overzealous parents..the win win win coaches..it is still a summer sport for fun with so many memories attached..

Today, one of those feel good moments happened..There is always 1 or 2 kids who freeze up on the block..every year..different kid but, same scenario. Today, a little girl started to cry..I am sure it is totally overwhelming for a small child. The team coach saw her raced to the end of the pool and yelled out to her, "Amy, look at me..keep your eyes on me..It is just you and me..listen for my voice.." Amy gave a slight nod, and got in the water..Coach just yelled encouraging things the whole time.."you can do Amy..your almost here.." When Amy touched the wall, she lifted her out of the water and twirled her around..That little girl had the biggest 'I did it' smile..It was awesome..Over 2oo swimmers are on our team..and she made that child feel like it she was the only one..

I have few videos..they are not great..I forget I am taping because I get so excited..I did not tape Mary Grace..I was to busy cheering I forgot to press record. She did great..I asked her tonight, "Mary Grace, when you are swimming so fast what are you thinking?" Her response, " My mouth." "Your mouth?" She responds Mary Grace like, " I am thinking I have to keep my mouth closed, but I really want to keep it open ..."

It was the best hot 6 hours.. sweating..sitting in the sun...that I have had in a long time...and did I mention that Mary Grace was ASLEEP at 6:45..bonus!
